In response to an article in the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) News Bulletin, I sent them this e-mail, on the 4th of July 2013:
Just a few comments on the contents of the GEPF fundnews June 2013.
I find it highly disturbing that the GEPF is using pensioners’ money to support and augment the failed infrastructure of this country – which the corrupt ANC-government has allowed to collapse.
The GEPF is now investing in building a private hospital; financing education, and developing solar energy plants. In all of these areas the government has failed to deliver. What makes you think that the G(overnment)EPF can do any better?
Frankly, when I see the hundreds of millions that the GEPF is “investing” in various projects, I smell a rat – or a Gupta. Where did the GEPF suddenly find the expertise to successfully develop, build, manage, and maintain these undertakings? Who received the tenders for these projects? Why was this not made public? Where is the so-called “transparency?”
The GEPF has “invested” R325-million in solar power. When will these power plants be completed? How much electrical energy (Megawatt) will be generated? How many people will benefit; and how much will they be paying for electricity (per Kilowatt-hour)? How will the money (payments) be collected from them? Who is going to administer this business enterprise?
How are you going to make a profit out of our (the pensioners’) money from these “investments?” When can we (the pensioners) expect a return on our “investment?”
Regards, Yours truly, etc, etc
Now, nearly two months later, I finally received a reply from the GEPF:

So, it has taken the GEPF two months to answer my e-mail. Let me tell you: I’m scared. When it comes to medical matters, my ignorance knows no bounds.
These guys want to “escalate my communiqué.” In all my years, I’ve never had my communiqué escalated – and it sounds painful beyond belief!
Are they going to paint my face white, throw a blanket over my naked old body, and circumnavigate me – like they do to those poor young men who die at the initiation camps?
When they “escalate one’s communiqué,” does it involve the splitting of the sternum and rotator cuff repair surgery?
And, perish the thought; does it involve surgical gloves and Vaseline? Will it require sewing the torn edges of the supraspinatus tendon to the top of the humerus?
PS If anyone out there has ever had his (or her?) communiqué escalated, please tell me about it. Was operation successful?
