I can’t believe it has to be said again!
Why is it the religious cannot understand the facts, even when told over & over again! Please pay attention!
As much as you want it to be, atheism is not a religion!
re·li·gion /ri'lij?n/
Noun – The Belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, esp. a personal God or Gods, Details of a belief as taught or discussed.
a·the·ism /'aTHe?iz?m/
The Theory or belief that God does not exist.
I’m not sure why it is so important for the religious to maintain that atheism is a religion. Are they saying, ‘look, you are just as bad as us, you are also religious’, or are they saying, ‘look you are just as good as us, just a different religion’? I’m not sure what the point is? Please explain to me why it is so important to have atheism considered to be a religion.
Then there is the Faith issue. Atheism is not having faith in a deity; this does not translate into having faith in ‘no deity’.
faith /faTH/
Noun - Complete trust or confidence in someone or something.
Strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof.
If you are standing next to someone and they claim there is a spirit in front of you both that can’t be seen, heard or touched, they say they have faith that it’s there, if you disagree, based on the evidence presented, that does not mean you have faith in it not being there. The idea demands faith, the lack of evidence for the idea does not require faith; faith by definition is ’rather than proof’. Is this so hard to understand?
Atheism is not based on spiritual apprehension, doctrines, superhuman controlling power, it is not taught and is not a belief system. You are not required to have complete trust or confidence in someone or something.
It is simply the rejection of an idea of a deity, that’s it!
If atheism was a religion and required faith, how would that strengthen the theistic position? This argument is consistently used even though it adds no value to the discussion and does not in any way make the theistic argument stronger.
It is to me actually quite funny, trying to discredit a position by saying it’s just like your own!
