Postulations and Gaps
The origin of the universe and the evolution of life are punctuated with many postulations and gaps. While it is often mentioned that eventually science will resolve all the uncertainties and gaps, the converse is evident.
Yes, we know more now than in the time of Darwin. Yes, we have made more discoveries now. I was excited by NASA’s successful landing of a robot on Mars.
We have even found ways of dating fossils and distances in space. We also discovered flaws in our dating processes. We developed theories with dilutions of postulations (assumptions) until we have theories that sounds like achievements. We stir in philosophical and mathematical laws.
Yet, we reach moments where we have to revise our positions and re-explain what we thought were the best explanation. We did this because we upfront maintained that science is falsifiable. This is our justification to change it as we go along.
Where does this leaves us? If the laws of physics, philosophy and mathematics can be modified and/ or applied and/ or re-aligned, then surely postulations and gaps should become lesser.
The reality, though, provides contrary information.
