A response to various atheist posts, trying to probe the reality of Jesus, I had the great fortune of reading what misconceptions there are around Him, and would like to pose a few questions. It has been a long time since I have read such a load of ill conceived drivel, by grown up men. I can write a response to it that can stretch pages and pages, I will not honor, such an attack with that, it is not needed. I therefore pose a few questions:
1. If Jesus rose from the dead and is alive today, shouldn’t the same miracles, signs and wonders be around today?
2. What do I mean, when I say Jesus is alive?
3. Is prayer to the Living Jesus effective?
4. Is there such a thing as a heaven and a hell?
5. Does the Judgment day, talked about in the Bible hold any relevance?
6. Why does everyone need to be saved?
7. How can everyone be saved today?
Just a few questions I would like to highlight, I am sure there are boundless more I could pose.
Mark 16:14 to 18
The Great Commission
14 Later He appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen. 15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they[b] will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
The sign and wonders that appeared two millennia ago should be happening today… What is hampering it from appearing prevalently in the church today?
1. The act of religion,
2. The lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6) and unfortunately in some cases –
3. Men and women thinking they know more about a certain subject or who dictates to the leadership of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will merely stand back and let man do his thing. – I think a combination of all 3 in most cases. But that’s my opinion…
Is there proof that those miracles still happen today?
These 4 examples are of men that were raised from the dead, a girl being healed and a blind woman receiving her sight. The first instance a man already 4 days dead injected with embalming fluid, the second, a man that couldn’t be resuscitated. There are many more examples of miracles that take place today after praying in the Name of Jesus Christ. You can visit your local Evangelical/ Pentecostal or Charismatic church who holds regular healing services, or do a, you tube search of miracles. Jesus is the resurrection and the Life. Hence if Jesus answers prayer, He must be alive and well...
10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
When looking at these 4 examples one can come to a clear conclusion that what the Bible says about the Messiah, Jesus Christ is clear and undisputedly true. He is risen from the dead ALIVE. Meaning physically, breathing, speaking and smiling. Revelations says that after we have been resurrected to eternal life with Christ, He alone will bare the marks of our salvation on His body. He is raised 3 days after dying on the cross, with a glorified body. He will be returning in all His Glory.
Is prayer really effective?
Mathew 17 14 to 21
14 And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying, 15 “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic[c] and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. 16 So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him.”
17 Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.” 18 And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour.
19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”
20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief;[d] for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. 21 However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
Did you ever try fasting with prayer…?
Is there a heaven and a hell? – It can only be answered if you truly turn your eyes upon Jesus and ask Him to reveal Himself to you. Every word written in the Bible is true and faithful. So is He, and the heaven and hell He speaks of.
Why do people need to be saved?
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1 John 1: 5 to 10
5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.
How can everyone be saved today?
13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved
Since I showed you miracles of men being raised from the dead… You stand as every other man before the Parable of Lazarus and the rich man… What makes this story so interesting is that the Bible talks about Lazarus and the rich man, never once naming the rich man. Apparently the Lord knew Lazarus and not the rich man personally. Does He know you personally?
The Rich Man and Lazarus
19 “There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day. 20 But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, 21 desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell[d] from the rich man’s table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 “Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’ 25 But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. 26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.’
27 “Then he said, ‘I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house, 28 for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.’ 29 Abraham said to him, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’ 30 And he said, ‘No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ 31 But he said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’
I hope the testimony of the dead rising will be of avail…
May Jesus save us all.
In the Name of Jesus.
