The Minister of Basic Education wants pupils to be back at school! This she has urged for the pupils in the Northern Cape who apparently have not been to school since June this year?
This because of no tar roads and whatever other grievance they are complaining about?
What needs to happen is "Keep pupils in school"!!!!!
The fact that there are so many pupils roaming the street and choose not to go to school is a disaster ! YES ! A DISASTER !!!!
It amazes me that the pupils of today stay at home because of:
1. They are not writing a test or exam today?
2. They have a study day, so they stay at home?
3. Exams each term and every year for the past 3 years is completed a week before school OFFICIALLY CLOSES, and therefore the pupils stay at home as they have finished their exams and the teachers will be marking the papers during that week (so I hear)???
4. They have a headache and (not feeling well) spend 1 or 2 hours at school, then the parents are called to collect their Child to be taken home. (Why do schools then have sick bays??
5. I am sure there are many more feeble pathetic excuses to not be IN SCHOOL !
There should be INSPECTORS appointed throughout the schools in South Africa riding around in official vehicles finding pupils who roam the street and are BUNKING to be brought back to school to face disciplinary measures and receive DEMERITS and possible suspension if one is a repeated offender of this nature.
Parents should contact the school before school starts to inform the secretary that their child is definitely SICK and will not be attending school to avoid 'INSPECTORS' coming around and knocking on our doors at home to find out why they are not in school!
The above is an idea that could and should be implemented to safeguard the pupil from thinking they can continuously beat the system and not be held responsible because the parents know of their excuses and have their parents permission not to be in school. I am sure there are many other petty excuses happening in all homes that have school going children that need to be "IN SCHOOL" Not be roaming the streets or being at home serving the internet and playing PC games.
Yes ! I know that the comments are going to be........Parents need to discipline their kids (and believe me, they do) and comments like......They don't have the manpower to police this SAD SITUATION.....etc etc etc !!!
Wake up people ! There is a serious need of School Governing bodies and that includes the MINISTER of BASIC EDUCATION to step up and make serious changes to keep " PUPILS IN SCHOOL".
Until this is investigated with Immediate action and implementation of INSPECTORS enforcing the Law, I am sad to say that our children (those who are lazy and slothful) will keep on taking chances and having many excuses not to be "IN SCHOOL"!
