Three million ‘free houses’ built since 1994! The ANC publically announced, yesterday, but the backlog remains at 2 million houses and the estimate costs R 800 billion, which extrapolated amounts to R 40 000 per house on average.
But what they so subjectively and efficiently forget to quote is the number of houses built, by contractors, who have been paid billions, that are inferior, had to be demolished as they were not fit for human habitat, the poor quality and workmanship and of course the monies paid to these contractors for inferior quality houses (like the contractor who built RDP houses in Kwa Zulu Natal, who fell apart, but her own house in Balito is worth R 80 million!)
If these houses that were inferior represents 10% of the one’s built, and at an average cost of R 40 000 per house, that is R 120 billion or otherwise stated, R 120 000 000 000 (One Hundred and Twenty Thousand Million Rand) paid to contractors and wasted due to improper quality control, logistics and management and that is something that should get the government to hide its head in a hole, like an ostrich out of shame and disgust for such kind of wastage!
And I am more than positive to say that this 10% is actually much higher which automatically increases the loss to all of us of tax payers money wasted!
Nothing to be proud of I would dare to say! This kind of management and the loss sustained would not be tolerated in a private company – the people responsible would be fired on the spot, and government should, showing their ‘so called transparency’ that do not exist, name and shame employees that caused this debacle and the companies involved in this, should be banned from contracting to the government but then 72% of them are actually owned by members of parliament, so it is like shooting a comrade in the foot, and you may even also benefit from the contract that he had been awarded!
