This past weekend saw two excellent games of cricket with Proteas versing Pakistan and if you look carefully, we might have a problem.
Now I've shared much-needed insights into several aspects over recent weeks: The ruling party and their Youth League, general politics, war strategies and even the Oscar Pistorius case. But there's something else that needs our undying attention.
Watching the cricket was really quite nice, especially yesterday when we won, cause it's always nice to watching winning instead of losing (I know how the Lions supporters can feel).
If you watched closely, really studied the games and the strategies and the players, you will see one glaring oblivious thing: The SA Cricket Team is most white! And also changing the uniform to pink yesterday won't hide that colour issue.
Now I understand the need for auto-correction of past deficiencies around colour selection and the need for a quote system in all aspect of life, but I just don't see the transformation in cricket.
Even the coloured players selected are fair complexion, and the whites with a tan can look so similar. Outside of this, there is Mr Hassim who is maybe there because of his religion or Middle East ethnic look? And then only one African player with Mr Tsotsibe.
Now I love to watch a winning team, but of course we can never say that more traditional Africans in the teams will make us weaker? Where is the facts for this statements?
I hope that today's insights into what could be racism inside cricket will be taken to hard and seen for the problem it could be.
And one another thing, we need to ensure that a muti-cultural demography stays consistent with our governments tranforming targets!
