Obviously not all cleaners are racist, yet I choose to say they all are because, all the cleaners I’ve come across have given me the same type of treatment. I’m disgusted to the point that I had to write an article about it.
My latest incident with a cleaner approximately a week ago.
I was on my way to an interview that was to be held at a restaurant in a mall and decided to take the stairs to go to the lower level floor as I could see the restaurant from above. When I’m supposed to take the last flight of stairs I realize that the floor is a bit wet and I instantly see the “ wet floor” stand/board by the side and the cleaning lady behind it. The fact that I was running out of time gave me the idea to sincerely ask her to do me a favour and let me pass as I’m in a hurry.
Well I was denied permission to pass, yet I understood and did not even argue it or anything of that sought. Just as I turn to go back up and take the lift as instructed, a white male is on his way down too, as he passes me ha also notices that he cannot take this route because of the wet floor. He stopped, looked at the cleaner and as he was thinking of what to do, the damn cleaner tells him that “you can pass sir, its fine, I will wipe if you make a mess”.
Oh yes!! I was also just as stunned in disbelief, and what worries me most is that, it was my fourth time being victim to such treatment by my own kind. The white male was also a bit surprised at what he had witnessed. I just carried on walking back up, taking the “black route” as the colour of my skin did not allow me access through.
What is my country and its people coming to though?
