Seriously, one of the hottest topics on this site is religion. Atheists vs Christians vs Islam etc.
I find the the arguments of Atheists quite interesting. If you really don't believe there is a God, why bother trying to convince religious folk otherwise? What possible benefit does that give you? I often wonder if their ridicule is bred from a deep seated, underlying fear that there just may be a God and that by implication there then actually may be a hell to which they are doomed?
Christians, of course, will state that it is their duty to try and convert the faithless. I agree, it is so. However, no one likes Bible- bashers.
You don't get a complete non-believer to have faith by preaching about sin and hell or even advocating a relationship with a living God that is most likely completely beyond your audiences understanding. You convert by living God i.e. by example. This implies being non-judgemental, non-critical and showing unconditional love.
Islam. and Bhuddism...I'm not so sure. Ironically they seem to be the least involved in these debates. Possibly because they don't feel the need to prove anything. They're content and at peace with their beliefs.
Religion, whatever you choose to believe (or not to) is a personal choice. Most religions have a common set of good, righteous principles by which followers live and frankly, if everyone actually just adhered to that, the world would already be a better place.
I don't think God (and yes I believe there to be One) will send good people who were faithful to that with which they were raised to hell.
Let's just stop ridiculing? To each their own!
