Last week I posted a piece consisting of nine or ten reasons for being anti-theist.
The intrusion of some of the religious in the lives of the rest of the populace continues relentlessly. Yesterday we had reports that “A group of prominent Cape Town Christians are unhappy that a mountain at the centre of the city is named after the devil.” leading to their meeting with the Western Cape Provincial Geographical Names Committee to insist on their religious right to not have to live in the shadow of Devil’s Peak!
I hope that these “good” people will in the near future be making representations to change other unsuitable (to christians) names. A few come to mind Die Hel, duiweltjies, Devils Flower Mantis (insect), Dust devils and devils claw are a few that come to mind. Ile du Diable or Devil’s Island in French Guiana made famous in the book Papillon will probably not be subjected to similar demands due to possible diplomatic fall out.
The mind boggles!
