Saturday morning I turned on my TV, as millions of other rugby fans did, to watch the most anticipated match of the year. The top two rugby teams in the world, both on incredible form, to play my favourite sport of all time.
Then, I was robbed, my team was robbed, New Zealand was robbed and you were robbed of what should have been a brilliant game of rugby game, turned into an absolute disgrace.
New Zealand was robbed of an opportunity to prove they are the very best, because, regardless of what their coach believes, it would would have been a tightly contested match.
The Boks was not robbed of a victory of any means, but an opportunity to prove to the world why they should be the number one team. Saying that we would have won had we had 15 players the whole game is hopeful to say the least.
What is done is done, not going to harp on with this, but what now?
This leaves me with three questions, What will the IRB do to rectify this? Imagine both us and NZ go on to get four points from our up coming matches before Ellis Park, very likely, that means that we will have to score four tries and and make sure they don't get the bonus point. You see it really is unfair and then sponging the game of the books or trying to compromise the points in a “fair” way, would be unfair to NZ as they aren't at fault either.
What will be done to prevent this in the future? We have all the technology and review systems that a referee could ever want, there is no excuses for the calls, yes he is human and he can make a mistake, but he has the ability to right his actions on the field.
Lastly, HOW THE HELL COULD THE IRB PICK A REFEREE THAT CAN'T EVEN SPEAK PROPER ENGLISH??? The Boks Afrikaans players can speak better English than that joke!
If something isn't done or not enough is done, I call that we boycott the IRB. In all honesty, had I been the captain for the match I would have walked of the field. 80 sad minutes that I will never get back of my life. Denied the opportunity to see one of the best rugby games of my life. A sad, sad day...
