South African advertisers and media ignoring black women
With black people, having come out of being the minority of those who support the economy due to the employment systems reform through black empowerment, I feel that advertisers are ignoring black women.
I don’t think I’m the only one that thinks, that, shops are ignoring black woman, shoe stores like ALDOS, and underwear shops like LA SENZA have totally ignored a big chunk of the market by advertising to white south African women only.
What I find to be a shame is that black women still walk into such stores and by clothing and items, that were obviously not marketed to them even though I know a big portion of the stores incomes come from them.
I commend stores like Woolworths who have started to advertise to black people as well, and even have taken the time to use black mannequins.
With black people starting to make up a lot of the economy buying power I think it’s only fair that we start to ask questions towards advertisers and retailer’s alike where faces like ours are.
It’s totally disheartening to want to buy a piece of clothing and find that the retailer such as the above mentioned to not advertise to me.
Black women contrary to popular belief are not as docile as people think we are. Maybe reform in the South African media world should start advertising to the majority of people that are actually supporting it.
I urge black women to start taking their power back and boycott stores that don’t advertise to them.
