SA cricket in crisis

01 August 2013, 12:42
The humiliation handed out to the Proteas by Sir Lanka must be the low point in SA crickets history, the Cricket boards squabbles and infighting are directly the cause of our cricket going down the tubes, allegations of corruption, commission of enquiry, court cases etc.The board members are just worried about their jobs and the monetary perks that come with the job, cricket is just an end to a means, to think that this does not affect the players is a fallacy. Mickey Arthur had run ins with the board, and was hounded out of SA cricket, Gary Kirsten also cried enough because of interference, stating he wants to spend more time with his family. At the heart of the problem is affirmative action, everybody denies this, but there is a unwritten quota in place to have a certain number people of colour in the team, and then a new criteria has emerged, there must be ethnic blacks in the team, all these factors are contributing to the fact that our cricket cannot compete against the top cricketing nations,we have become a true African cricket team on the same level as Zimbabwe and Kenya.
