In the past, freedom were fought for as part of the democratic change in South Africa. Today, 18 years later, we are still fighting. We are fighting for what is enshrined in the constitution of South Africa. We are still seeking education reform to compete on international level aswell as to prepare us for a prosperous future The constitution also further guarantee that we must receive Electricity, water, be protected and to express us freely without let or hinderance.
The problem with the mentality of many fellow South Africans is that they just look at the one side of coin in respect of what constitution promise them. Have they ever turned the coin around and saw that with the guarantee’s come great responsibility. To obtain this guarantee’s one should be a contributor to the economy of South Africa. One should diligently pay their statutory taxes, Property rates and Taxes. This way the government, as imposed by the constitution of South Africa will supply these guarantees as they can.
Many people don’t understand how government function. As individuals we will normally take our income less taxes less expenses; but government first need to determine how much they going to spent then deduct taxes collected to arrive at a budget deficit before borrowings. Government will then borrow money from foreign sources, the South African Reserve Bank or the Private sector. I will come back to this in a while.
The South African Reserve Bank is constitutional obligated to protect our currency ie. To not depreciate and to ensure that inflation remains between the 3%-6% target.
In economical term we can determine how many money (investment) was lost to political policies, absurd outburst from policy makers and/or leaders or incidents that happened; But we can never determine how much investment/money would’ve come into South Africa if these events, outburst or incident did not happen. Our GDP (Gross Domestic Product) equates to $363.70 Billion (Based on 2010).
The South African Government thinks that social welfare grants helps the country. I understand that they are trying to improve the standard of life in SA (SA life Expectancy is 51.61YEARS – 2009). This however will not be sustainable as government wont have all the resources it currently have forever, and a economy growth rate of 3.2% is not going to cut it. We require an economic growth rate in excess of 8.50% over the next 10-20 years to decrease the unemployment rate by 25-35%.
The question should be asked: How will we be able to obtain this?
Our ANC government need to shift it mind set away from Nationalizing of mines. We need to reform our education system and improve it and make sure that all students have access to quality education. We need government to review and change certain labour laws. And we need government to create an environment for entrepreneurs to start more business ventures. In essence, I think the ANC should work with the DA on certain policies the DA can offer as it has brilliant policies. But the ANC’s alliance partners do not like this idea.
We use the AS-AD economic model after a careful study of the Keyanesian Model.
To ensure that the economy growths we need to SPEND more. IF we as individuals / firms / government spend more and invest more in projects it will create more jobs because a demand was created. I am not saying, that we have to spend recklessly or over indebt ourselves. Spending is the driving force behind job creation and economic growths. That’s why the DA, in my opinion, is thinking of the wage subsidy or that government aids young entrepreneurs. That’s why the DA firmly believes that if we achieve a economic rate of 7% will start to decrease the unemployment rate. It makes logical sense.
Why is the Government not wanting to achieve this? I think its because they want to keep the impoverish people intact. At our rate of approximately 3.2% government is helping a few people to go from the poor category to the middle class category to high class. This way it can state election after election that they are creating jobs. What they arnt thinking about is the social welfare grants they have to pay out. If you decrease unemployment, social welfare grants will be decreased.
Outburst and strikes like the recent mine strikes forces investors to withdraw their funds/money from South Africa, which will have a greater impact. First, the mining sector will give the workers what the want or to come as close to their demands as possible; but by doing that the strikes will have a significant loss in revenue which in turn will lead to job losses which will place an even bigger burden on government. Government is not helping at all with there people stating that “Nationalizing of Mines” are back on the table. Is this people we call our government really thinking of the consequences of their narrow minded actions? No they are not. The think by nationalizing mines will bring about more revenue for government to spend.
These policy makers, government members of Parliament etc should consider if they really deserve their seat in Parliament. Julius Malema keeps on saying he is all for the poor, but its likely that these miners might loose their jobs, is Julius Malema going to fund their lifestyles should they be retrenched?
It creates a tendency of a vicious circle which does not mean any good to us and our economy.
Now, to come back to our famous world renowned constitution. It gives us as the citizens of this nation the power to vote for a competent government that will put the interest of its citizens above their own hidden agendas and enrichments. How long will we still keep on voting for a government that cant even have unity within its own organization? People, lend your vote to an opposition party just in one nation election and see if they can change our country around. I mean, even if all the opposition parties can gather 201 seats in parliament, it will be enough to start the changes and gain speed for the in excess of 7% economic growth rate that will have a declination effect on our unemployment rate.
SPEAK UP FELLOW SOUTH AFRICANS. WE CAN NOT ALLOW OUR COUNTRY TO SHATTER AND BECOME A FAILED STATE.
USE YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL RESPONSIBILITY CORRECT TO ENSURE THE RECEIPTING OF THE CONSTITUTIONAL GUARENTEES.
SPEAK UP SOUTH AFRICANS. THERE IS NO MORE A THING CALLED RACIAL FACTUALISM. WE ARE ALL TOGETHER IRESPECTIVE OF RACE, GENDER OR RILIGIOUS ORIENTATION.
