South African National Parks plans to form public-private-partnerships in a number of Eastern Cape national parks to exploit restaurant and retail opportunities.
The Eastern Cape parks are the Addo Elephant, Tsitsikamma section of the GardenRoute National Park and Mountain Zebra National Park.
SANParks says it intends to offer “selected private parties” the rights to operate restaurant and retail facilities in the parks that will be “packaged” to reflect its requirements.
SANParks says it intends to enter into PPP agreements with the preferred bidder “for a period likely to provide a fair return on investment,” with the private partners meeting agreed operating, development, refurbishment, BBBEE and environmental obligations and pay a PPP fee to SANParks.
