When was the last time you heard a 10 year old boy say: “When I grow up I want to be a Police man!”?
This is an official request: I request a SENIOR POLICE OFFICIAL to participate in this debate and perhaps to answer to US the citizens of this country. IF any of you have the balls.
I walked in the mall last weekend, and I saw two Female Metro officers. There is no more pride. They were overweight. And their uniform just doesn't tell me they have pride. When last have you seen a police officer with a crisply ironed uniform with pleats in the right places, boots shining, and everything perfect? I have been to a police station to get a document certified, and the police officer kept my pen without returning it.
They stand around, chewing gum, and in such a manner that shows total disregard for the uniform they wear or the badge they carry. THERE IS SIMPLY NO PRIDE.
Yes there are the few who still do their jobs as best as they can; and I fully admire those men and women who put on a uniform to SERVE & PROTECT. BUT, how do you know who are the honorable and who are the corrupt. We just cannot know, and that my dear fellow citizens, is a problem. A very big one.
Over the last while we have seen a Mozambique citizen getting dragged behind a police vehicle. Not that I have any idea where in the constitution it is written (or in police conduct) that you can drag your “suspect” behind the vehicle.
Then there was the case of Tatane. Shot at point blank range (more than once) with a shot gun, beat with night sticks, and then simply for convenience left for dead. We have all seen the footage. Frankly, with so many officers on the scene, why is it that they simply could not have subdued the man, cuffed him, and taken him to the police station? This proves just how UNTRAINED they are.
Then there is the Marikana situation. Fine I get what happened there. As citizens you shouldn't be challenging the police force and think you are bullet proof. But for the love of me, was there any tactical planning involved? It seems the top brass had no idea what was going on. Can the SAPS please get a competent ex-military individual who has the skills required to lead them? It’s called “coordinated” tactical planning.
And now the latest, 7 “highly trained” Metro Police Officers on the scene to take down one helpless blind man; And to prove just how tough they are, they had to break his guitar. What I believe should have happened, is they should have had one officer speak to the man, and advice him that they can assist him on an alternate life.
They should have explained they can help him by getting a NGO who deals with people with disabilities to assist him.
I personally am disgusted at what I see in the police force of our country. Criminals get away with murder, literally. We had a top forensic department in SAPS, now we have police officers contaminating evidence and the crime scene. We have police who are overweight.
I’m not a shallow person, but if you’re a police officer, how the hell can you chase a criminal when you’re as round as a soccer ball? I see officers who are FAT, LAZY and UNDISCIPLINED. How many officers actually know under-arm-combat or have any form of combat skills? How many officers can handle a firearm efficiently?
Personally I feel every police officer should be able to run flat out over 500 meters. It doesn't have to be fast, but they should be physically fit. They should understand and know weapons from small arms such as hand guns, to other weapons such as the Kalashnikov (AK 47).
They should be friendly at all times. A Police officer should be well spoken in their own language as well as English. Their uniform should reflect their pride when you see them.
I do not see any of this. SO, how would you expect me to show respect to an officer, and for that matter, even trust a police officer?
