Same road leads to different destinations

SAME ROAD LEADS TO DIFFERENT DESTINATIONS

We all know our Government is doing much for its people especially with allocation of RDP houses and Children grants. Keep up the good work. One of my two sisters has now three kids and I’m their uncle. No one in the family knows who their fathers are. My sister doesn’t miss a single grant pay day, she is always in a queue early to get it and after that she’ll come back home late in the night drunk and in the company of a man, her new boyfriend which she might have possibly picked up in the shebeen or tavern. Right now I think she is pregnant again. She leaves all her children in the hands of our ailing mother. The children are always not properly dressed; they play in the streets half naked with only t-shirts I last bought them. They run around without shoes and trousers whilst she wears beautiful hair done in a saloon. She wears expensive clothes and shoes whilst we are ashamed of nudist kids and do the little difference we can. She does not care, not even a bit. We talked to her many times, we called our relatives to talk to her but she seems not prepared to change. We also called our priest but he was talking to a dead wood. We are afraid that if we evict her, out of our home, we’ll soon be called to collect her dead body in the tavern and again her kids would be orphans of first degree.

It is a pathetic situation but to be honest it is not only my sister, myriad of her alike, my other sisters from my other mothers are roaming the shebeens. There is nothing wrong with the social/ children grant but my worry is it does not reach its intended destination, the kids. These kids, most of them have never known the comfort of crèches. Do we need to talk to Government officials to stop such abuses? I’m trying to show that if it was not for the money landing in wrong hands, my sister would not be having money to buy liquor and endless boyfriends. Sometimes I thought about the possibility of Government considering giving out vouchers (in place of money)that only permit these ruthless young and spineless mothers to buy only certain brands and also only at selected few outlets to stop them from stealing from the needy and hungry children. This is very unfortunate especially when these mothers compete about how much they get because of the number of children they have; more children more money. One day they might stop you (potent man) in the street and ask you to give them more children for more money and that is what is happening right away. Anyhow it is not a problem to some political parties because it means more children more votes for them later. In other words all these viz. RDP’s and grants substitutes food parcels known to have been used on numerous occasions to lure voters to their death trap. You’ll agree with me that it’s crime to fold your arms and do nothing when things are getting out of hand, so come on, give us your views on how this can be changed and become a system that benefits the kids only!!
