SATAN WILL NOT LET GO EASILY
Most people, though they have heard the gospel many times, but in their hearts they do not understand it. Many do not know what faith is. I am convinced that millions of people in the world do not know what believing in Christ means. Though every Sunday/Sabbath-day they are told about the Good News of the gospel, they do not catch it – for the Spirit of God has not illuminated their minds. Many, though they want to be saved, do not understand the work of Christ. Though the message of substitution, which is at the very core of the gospel, is very plain to believers – but to those who are still seeking, they do not understand it. The penitent fact of the gospel has not been grasped by many souls.
To believe in Jesus, as it is said again, and again, and again, is simply to trust in Jesus – to take God at his word. To take Christ for what God says he is –the atonement, the satisfaction for sin, the Savior of sinners. What God requires from us is to simply “believe in the LORD Jesus”.
It is clear that the only way you can be saved is by faith. There is no other way. That is now a settled issue. God has willed it to be so and no man can argue and debate what God has determined. What if a man says, “I cannot believe such a thing.” ? What then? What is the wisest course of action for such a man? Let’s assume you find it difficult to believe a report – what do you do? You will definitely consider its possibilities. Suppose it has been reported that Barack Obama has committed suicide. Shall you believe such a report? You will find out where such a rumour comes from, what intelligence corroborates it, upon what authority is it stated and so on – and by that means you will arrive at a conclusion of whether the report is true or it is just a fairy tale.
Now if you truly want to believe, faith is a gift from God and a work of the Holy Spirit – but God, though divine in nature, has chosen to work according to the laws of mind and faith in Christ will mostly conform with those laws – though not limited by them. Faith comes by hearing. How by hearing? Because by hearing I learn the truth concerning Christ and what I hear commends itself to my judgment and understanding – and so I come to believe. Faith comes to us by reading, which is another form of hearing. Read what the Scripture has to say about the Messiah and his work, this will help you to believe God’s testimony by knowing what it is and on what authority it comes from. Let your reading and hearing be sincere and be accompanied by diligence and attention to the Good News and weigh it in your innermost heart. You know, clearly, that you have sinned and that God must punish sin. These two are very plain and clear to your conscience. No human being can be in denial of sin. We are all sure and certain of it. In fact, the authenticity of Scripture is best proven by this very doctrine than anything else – for no human mind could have contrived and conceived such a thing.
Then in your searching, reading and hearing you will find promised over and over and over again, by God himself, that if you trust in Christ you shall have the benefit of all his work. You must then believe what is promised you.
While Jesus walked this earth, they asked him, “What can we do in order to do what God wants us to do?” The LORD Jesus replied, “What God wants you to do is to believe in the one he sent.” – John 6:28-29
My friends, that hasn’t changed. Believe on the LORD Jesus Christ and you shall be saved.
This is a true saying, “No king will willingly lose his subjects.” And Satan will not easily let go of his captives. When he sees his victims about to turn to the truth, he sets extra guards around them. He will set others to tempt them with many things, inject into their minds the most horrible thoughts, the most blasphemies and the most conceivable barriers. He can vomit many lies into your ears and your poor soul will start believing him instead of the truth. He can spend all his energy to make sure you don’t come to the knowledge of the truth. Satan knows that once you yield to the truth, you are likely to believe it. Your spirit will agree to what the Spirit of God says, and your soul will have no choice – the results yield faith in the son of God and the devil loses. No amount of work required, just faith in the finished work of God, in Jesus.
