Even though newspapers have a different take on Mandela’s state, what remains clear is that South Africans are praying for the speedy recovery of our dear Madiba.
Not to be out of faith and risking being thrown with stones, but I believe it is time to let Madiba go. I believe that he has done his part and has given everything for us as the country. He has emptied himself for what he believed in, he has nothing more to offer us.
The truth is this, everyone, dear as they are, has a limited amount of time on earth and maybe his is almost up too.
At that age, nothing is fun anymore especially when you have given all to give and knowing there is nothing else you can anymore. I know this because last year I had to say goodbye to my mother and best friend at age 99.
I remember pouring my heart out as I saw that her health was deteriorating, she was on the end of her line. I wanted her around forever, I was desperate for that line to be moved further away so that her day never comes.
I will never forget her eyes when she pleaded with me to let her go, "please release me, I want to go home. Nothing is as precious in living anymore. My body aches. All I ever wanted to see I have seen; now I just want to go and rest".
I held on to her for dear life and told her I couldn't, but her pleading made me feel as if I was faced with the decision of pulling the plug. After much resistance and tears streaming down my cheeks, I finally told her "I release you" and on that we said our good-byes through our hearts. Right there and then she accepted the best gift of love I could ever give her.
I believe that our darling Madiba is asking for that from South Africans now, to be released so he can go and rest. He has been through a lot and fought a good fight. While he has money, he too will never escape the principles of life.
There will forever be time for everything under the sun. There is a time to be born and a time to die. That is life and will stay so for as long as the earth exists. No one gets out of it. That is at least the fairness of life.
I plead with you fellow South Africans to stand with me and deliver the best gift Mandela needs right now, a release. Let our prayer be, that we continue with the legacy that he suffered to leave for the country. May it be that we may dare to unite in love regardless of the colour of our skins. More than anything, may our prayer be a thank offering to God for the best gift he has ever given to the country.
Nelson Rholihlahla Mandela will forever be the darling of the South and forever live in our hearts.
In flesh we say farewell Madiba. Thank you for all that you have done. A better crown awaits you on the other side.
To the family, thank you for sharing him with us. It couldn't have been easy. We truly appreciate it. When he is gone, please make him proud. May you not mess up what he has given his life for. Keep the Mandela name up!
