Chaos and violence are encroaching on our doorsteps, where farmers have to flee for their lives while they watch their years and years of hard work being burnt to a cinder in minutes. Our farmers too being savagely murdered, slaughtered like animals. Workers outraged over slave wages. Poverty devouring 1000's like a savage beast.
Young innocent lives are being snuffed out in the cities too. Lost lives of young ones scattered upon news sites and other social medias sites. Our children's education in jeopardy, as they are now subject to one of the worst education systems in the world, as even our Matric is not recognized in any other nation as a High School Certificate.
We can't sleep or live here without the security of Fort Knox. Burglar bars, security systems, private security, barbwire lined walls, Taizers, Pepper spray, snarling vicious dogs all to live in some semblance of peace.
And yet, we look at our land, a sterling beauty; the vast open plains, the glorious sunsets, the rolling white sands and sparkling turquoise waters of our coastlines, and know we cannot just give up and give in to defeat. How can we feel such disdain towards such a 'beauty', South Africa, this pearl of the south of Africa?
We have statistically, one of the largest population of Christians. Reports from Europe state that churches are failing to gain or keep congregants and Atheism is now the current belief system widely accepted by most citizens of Europe and the United Kingdom. Here we have a church on just about on every corner and most are filled with worshipers every Sunday, BUT....why then are we facing this storm of destruction.
I put it down too many Believers/Chrisians in this country who are asleep I'm afraid. They live comfortable lives, giving their hearts over to lavish life styles, instead of the Gospel they live by. They profess that they are of God but instead worship their opulence and the safety of their material assets. Many care little for the poor and with a myriad of excuses as to why they should not invest any of their time or money in assisting those who have less.
Apartheid ended in 1994 and we have had 20 years to clean up our act. A very long period of grace from God to make right on our wrongs, to repent, heal and restore this nation. There are many who have done just this, and given themselves to obeying God on this. There are many more though who idly sit back and watch others do this and then claim it as 'not their calling', and so put the responsibility on others to amend the mistakes of the past.
Complacency, denial and lack of concern has lead us right to where we are now. The majority of our citizens have seen no active change in their living conditions or their financial position, even though analysts state that things have improved, as more jobs have been created, houses built, more educated and generally they reckon we are in a better place than we were under our former government . This may be true to an extent but the fact is most of the formerly disadvantaged are not seeing proof of this in their lives, so resentment and envy continue to grow in their hearts towards those who have, when they do not.
Can we expect any less from these people? If the roles were reversed, would you feel any less resentful or embittered towards a minority who are said to earn 10x more than you do?
We not only need to stick to our biblical principles, but we need to get our feet on the ground and start working and contributing to those who are bringing about active change in the communities who are without. When they see people in action, bringing 'Christian charity' to the people, not just a promise of His Love but visible evidence thereof, then and only then, will we start to see healing come to this nation.
Our focus has been far too much on ourselves and our plight and we have ignored a majority who are eager to take vengeance on those who they see as 'hording up wealth for themselves', while they starve and live in unbearable conditions. There is a mindset of poverty that needs to be dealt with and changed, in order to promote the desire and motivation to work and achieve without expecting hand outs, but how many of us are actively involved in such an effort?
South Africa, I urge you ALL, to be a contributor towards 'beauty' and not that of the 'Beast'. To set about upon a plan of action to redeem this land. If we do not change and follow, I believe a godly plan to save this nation, all will be lost and a certain terror will grip this land and shred it of all that is good.
Do not cease in doing good, let us be proactive citizens in uplifting this nation and it's people. In the words of Edmund Burke; "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."
