So this past weekend we witness the spectacle of South African rugby tradition - The Currie Cup Final.
And while we can applaude the victory for the Sharks, we must also consider some of the facts that occur through the season which swing the vote for the day of the final.
So first and mostly, let us analyse the stats and facts:
Griqualand West Rugby was established long before most of the other unions in South Africa.
I belief that only Western Province Rugby is older to start with, which also should mean that the Griquas are better suited to the model of today's game, because they have more experience in years.
I don't have a problem, even personal problem, with Natal Rugby, but there seems to be a strong colonial influence in the union and even the Beast is a foreign player who is maybe making quotas for their BEE targets?
For me, the ultimate Currie Cup Final can only be a final hosted in Kimberely by the Griquas, and then with a touring side who is consisting of maybe WP or even the Bulls, who I think are the third oldest union in country.
But even WP, based on their horrible performance on Saturday, cannot be considered anymore as a finalist consideration.
Looking at the very narrow losses of the Griquas this season, and their controversy over their illumination from the Currie Cup Premier league, with now has Witbank Rugby in their place for next year, we can only see the writing on the wall and hidden agenda of SARU and the presidents of rugby.
Having a Currie Cup without Griquas, who are the biggest rugby unions and Springbok feeding union, is just not cricket, as they say. In fact it's not rugby as well. Not without Griquas.
Please SARU, I beg for you to reconsider next year and the fate of Griquas rugby? Not just me, but everyone in Kimberely.
We mustn't remove Griquas like the politics and shame of Lions removal from Super Rugby. Now Griquas and maybe Kings to play Currie Cup lower league final?
This is sounding more and more like politics and interference in our national sport!
