"Shocking rape video goes viral in South Africa",says CNN

19 April 2012, 10:05

What a headline to look at after a hard day's work and you trying to catch up on some South African news whilst living here in America. In fact it was the first item on a news page under the South African headlines section.Gotten so used to Malema or Zuma being the top or first matter of business emanating out of South Africa, never though it would be so brass so as to have this(RAPE) being a top story, and yet it was!

How far down the beaten tract has South Africa gone as to moral bankruptcy since I left those shores more than 35 years ago I wonder? Janine Rowley of the organisation Women against Rape  or WAR says "that a woman in South Africa gets raped every 9 to 23 seconds you believe that? In such a short space of time the ANC Government has made South Africa one of worst places to live if you are a women. I'll back that up with some current stats from people that are not South African. How about that?

Here goes: World Press Review says that "South Africa in the year 2011 alone had 1.2 million people
that got raped each and everyday,of that number more 60 children got raped in a single day and that's only the cases that got reported on or that we know off. South Africa has the highest number of rape incidents in the world...more than 12 times that of the United States of America which came in second on the list...even though South Africa has a population of only 50million compared to America's 310million...In other countries people will either rape you, rob you, or kill you,but in South Africa they'll rape you before they kill you, just because you happen to be there. Rape occurs automatically in connection with all other criminal acts in South Africa."

Why do people in South Africa find themselves in such deplorable and dangerous situations? What kind off future is this for South Africa or its people. Is the government, the criminal justice system, the police, the law courts, schools et all, simply not not doing enough to protect its own citizens?

Rape has a sheer cumulative toll on the victim's health. The fear, the anxiety, the distress you name it let alone the person's precious dignity makes this filthy crime come down on an individual like a ton bricks whatever way you look at it.

The gap between the ANC Government and its local councillors perceptions of what is in South Africa's best interest and the sad realities of everyday life in South Africa has become too dangerously wide to be honest. All the ANC can do is constantly perpetuating their power so as to not allow other more normal and credible opposition parties an opportunity to govern in their place.
