I recently decided to re - read a book that my parents read to me when I was young. It started off well enough with some fairly fantastic concepts in the first chapter (although some of the ideas didn’t follow logically).
The second chapter was also quite good! Chapter three however started to get a little creepy, the main characters began speaking to mythical creatures, which lead to all sorts of trouble.
The fourth chapter deals with a family murder, leading to a family feud. Not explicitly written, however it seemed to me a little unnecessary to me.
Chapter five is all about the age & name of all the family members, a kind of family tree.
In Chapter six there is tales of alien abduction, ‘young women who were beautiful’ were taken, producing giants as a result. I suppose this story is nothing new, I can’t help wondering why aliens aren’t interested in our technology; it’s always sex they want! (A man must have written it!).
The next few chapters deal with fantastic stories of great buildings, revenge, weather catastrophes and so on. Some logical inconsistencies, I would have preferred it if the Author had thought the concepts through, it seemed a little far fetched that millions of species were put on a small boat to be saved from the rising water, maybe me just being picky!
It’s in chapter seventeen where the story turns sinister, all the male characters are subjected to genital mutilation, even their slaves!
In chapter nineteen it takes an even darker turn, one of the characters offers his two virgin daughters to a mob ‘to do with as you please’ to save his houseguests from being raped by them! After dodging this fate, his daughters make him drunk and sleep with him because they both can’t find husband…
It kept getting worse, mass genocide, slavery, rape, scorched earth, war and so on.
I wonder why the author/authors chose the title “the good news”.
The second part of the book, is however the “bad news”. It says that if you don’t like this book, believe its stories or love it’s author, you are going to suffer in a fire forever!
Should this book be given to children to read? I suggest it should be reviewed by the Film & Publications board and rated, maybe PG 13 SVM.
