This will be short. I am friends with a teacher on facebook. The aforementioned teacher made a spelling mistake in one of her posts, and immediately one person pointed this out. The rest of her FB friends came to her defence, like a wildfire the comments started.
I was defriended because of my reply. Which was the following : I am not a teacher, and yes I might make spelling mistakes, but unfortunately I agree that teachers should be able to spell. Even though it was one small mistake, the rest of your posts and grammar are also a reflection of your language skills. Parents are quick to complain about their children's education not being sufficient, or up to standard, but the same people who complain are now defending the bad grammar and spelling. Even though you don't teach a language, you should be proficient in the language you are teaching in.
People can be so sensitive, especially when it comes to the truth. I don't care where you went to university, and how good your grades were, but if you can't spell, you teach a whole class how to spell incorrectly. Just my opinion.
