I was going through several articles on MYNEWS 24 and was utterly disgusted at the language and speech. Used by commentators. In most cases it was absolutely shocking.
When I was young I had the hell out of me beaten by my mother because I used the word JOU GAT when addressing an elderly lady who offered me a cool-drink. In retrospect my mother may have overdone the hiding yet when I reminisce, then I believe it was insufficient. I deserved more and it was the correct thing to do. I respect elderly persons yet am shocked at the speech and crude references from persons a third of my age.
All I know about Nancy is that she is an elderly person: I do not know her other than that. She waded into the sea of insults, fists flying. The insults she received was shocking and debasing and several other adjectives from our male population which may be an over-extension of youths. One can only wonder at the discipline these thugs were exposed to in their younger years, if there was discipline that is.
I will digress back into history:(In 1970 I was called up to do military training: that duty entailed going to the SWA/Angola border and its war-torn precincts. Military life was rigorous and yet displayed the mettle of the person exposed to rigorous discipline 24/7.
I have two sons, aged 43 and 48 yrs old. Both of them saw active service on the border yet came out unscathed: They were prepared to do what others saw as not to their wants and needs. Both came home heroe’s. Military training made them the well balanced people they are today with all the qualities needed to be that.
Today I find it difficult, if not impossible, to be proud of our youth, with their bent to criminality and thuggery we witness every day from our youth.
The youth of the late 1980’s and early 1990’s are the parents of today. It is shocking to even read of the thuggery and criminality, theft and rape,Assault and destruction of school property and private property. One can only question the discipline meted out at home: If any. What type of parents produce a child which attacks a rugby referee on the field of play, What type of parents produce a child which kills his entire family?, steal a vehicle from from the parents or other persons then crash it?
I cannot answer all the questions but I do believer that in many cases the parents are not fit to parent any child. The sins of the fathers.
It is generally accepted and endorsed by myself that military training makes men from boys by instilling a sense of responsibility and an acute social awareness.
Today, anyone can be a parent or present himself/herself as a fit parent. but are they prepared to take on the responsibility after baby can walk?.
By my own experience I have seen them go in as immature youths and come out as adults to a society that has high expectations for all.
Unfortunately, by a twist of history that may never happen.
What is implied here is: those who missed out on military service, were they not happy, missed out on being a responsible adult, a parent an an asset to society.
Military service can only correct some of the evils in our society
