Sleep Walkers

27 May 2014, 15:19

What are they thinking??

So, early one morning I am sitting at my window while slowly sipping my morning brew and watching the cars driving past. It is a beautiful day. Table Mountain looks magnificent!

Next the driver of a huge Range Rover pulls over and parks the vehicle at forty-five degrees across the street! Can you believe it? In die middle of peak-hour traffic in Kloofnek Road (Tamboerskloof) the driver parks the car, flips on the hazard-lights and strolls off.

Cars, trucks and motorbikes start to bottleneck and are forced to slip past into the face of oncoming traffic. This is insane! It is not as if there is no available parking. Oh, no. I mean, 2m ahead there is adequate space to park a 10-ton truck. What is wrong with this driver?

Then I realised, but off course - the driver is a “Sleep Walker”! That is why she is totally unaware of what she has done.

How fascinating! How selfish!

In my experience, Sleep Walkers are highly annoying and are the cause of much conflict amongst us. Unconscious people (Sleep Walkers) have little to no awareness of any other beings sharing this beautiful planet of ours. I am dedicating this writing to all of us - whether awake or “sleeping”. This is an issue that affects one and all.

Why is it that Sleep Walkers upset me (us)?

There are numerous examples where unconscious behaviour leads to aggravation: Parking on the most awkward spot and inconveniencing others drivers; driving like maniacs as if they are the only ones on the road; forcing their way in front of you as if you are made out of cellophane; regularly forgetting to pay you; not pitching for appointments; flicking a cigarette butt from a car window or merely dropping it wherever they feels like doing it; allowing their children to cause havoc in public places like restaurants while the parents are “relaxing”.

When are you a “Sleep Walker”? And why do some people choose to be “Sleep Walking?

PROJECTION is the biggest reason for becoming a “Sleep Walker”. Have you ever tried to confront a sleep walker? Oh boy, you will get an ear full! Denial; resistance; arguing and even outright anger.

“Sleep Walkers” are high maintenance when it comes to relationships.

“Sleep Walkers” pollute our planet, causing abuse to people and other living beings. In more severe cases it leads to the death of both people and animals.

Been unconscious is probably the most common “condition” of our times. And it drives the “awake” totally insane!

I was wondering how it feels to be half-asleep.

Imagine walking in your sleep - you look but do not see; you hear but do not comprehend. You think you have acted and WILL argue your point, but in reality it did NOT happen. The world is a very scary place and anything out there can hurt you or has it in for you. When you sleepwalk, you feel alone, fearful and are grabbing onto anything that you THINK will protect you. That is why “Sleep Walkers” prefer to move in groups – in order to feel safe. If they can hold onto each other, it makes the journey seems more comfortable. Remember: “Sleep Walkers” fear big time! That’s why they love to form groups of the same belief systems such as an organized religion. They are followers of gurus/celebs/icons and sport teams. You are damned if you are not part if it - they will not approve of you, maybe even hate you. It must be terrible to feel so unsafe and lost in this huge world loaded with the Unknown. There is no faith in “self” or in the Universe.

Why do some people choose to be unconscious?

Perhaps it is about NOT taking responsibility for your actions. Rather project your issues than dealing with it. If you become aware of the “self”, you become conscious of your thoughts, feelings, actions and the world around you. Then you have to take responsibility for your part in the world we co-exist in. Of course, by not taking responsibility it is much easier to blame someone else if something goes wrong.

But in this process you do not grow spiritually. If you belong to a group, you are part of their collective consciousness and can only grow as much as the group. There is no freedom, no growth, no wisdom that empowers the “self”. Like a sardine in a big school of fish - they just move with the flow of the ocean.  Almost meaningless. Therefore “Sleep Walkers” lack meaningfulness and feel hugely disempowered.

Being here on earth is not just a random happening. It is for a specific reason and that reason is to evolve our souls. We (our Souls or God, for some) have decided to do it through a human experience. Our souls have the opportunity to experience emotions in our bodies and grow to achieve a higher level of awareness - enlightment. Jesus did and so did Buddha.

If you live a more conscious life, you will create more meaning in your life.

It does not mean that this is the only truth, but it makes sense to me and it definitely shows positive results.

But don’t get me wrong, there is no right or wrong on this issue. It is everyone’s choice to be spiritually conscious or not! I can only implore you to wake up and become aware of what is happening to our planet. We are destroying our environment and in the process killing ourselves. Think of our children who remain behind and will inherit our earth. And think of you, the “Self”.

It is very empowering to be more conscious. It creates much more meaningfulness, Joy and bliss.

So, if you are indeed a “Sleep Walker” and do not buy into this, all I can say is: “It is now time to wake up! It is flippen irritating for the rest of us who have to share this planet with half-dead people! And by the way…it is SO last century to be asleep!
