So, Fellow Citizens ... How're we Doing?

15 September 2012, 12:33

I know how I’m doing! Today, I have a sore, sad and tender heart. My heart aches for this glorious, proud country and its people (picture of woman sobbing)!

What’s happening to us? What are we doing to ourselves and others? Just this minute I’ve picked out some stories on News24 and I simply have to ask, do we really, really want to know that the US is bracing for more violence in films? Is it detrimental to our well-being that we should be informed of a man who beat a kitten to death? Can we help the starving dog that was buried alive? Is it helping the fight against drugs, when we’re told that drugs to the value of R60 million have been seized – then, we’re never, ever told what’s happened to the drugs? What can we the public do about “Tik found in truck that killed teacher?”

Come on now! Please, tell me, are there people who yearn to know all this stuff, seriously? Do we eagerly await the news of a man being tortured by cops? Then we have the men who were released from prison for raping a teenager – for goodness sake! I see a story suggesting that “Obama is winning.” Excuse me, but, WTH is he winning? God help America if he wins another term!

As for Julius Malema… aren’t we wondering why he’s receiving so much media attention? He’s a belligerent, badly-bred little boy and yet he is one of the people causing hatred and violence. Shouldn’t he be jailed? After all, isn’t what he’s doing, called treason? He merely enjoys the sound of his own misinformed mouth and enjoys looking at his own face! Put the little fool in jail – someone!

Say and think whatever you like, these paparazzi-type journalists and editors are busy branding Malema a hero – instead of the other way around! What for – money, power and glory? Sure, go ahead and report – that’s their job isn’t it? But is there honestly nothing better in this country to report on besides, killing, doom, hatred, rape and president-bashing? Granted, our President isn’t my favourite type of guy but nevertheless, he remains President. He must and he surely will have to live with the consequences of his bad actions and, sadly, so too will we! So now, what’s happening is, people are bashing the ANC left, right and centre, exactly the same way they bashed the previous government.

Folks, judging by the very few headlines above, we can surely look deep into our hearts and ask ourselves … what are we teaching our children? What (if any) future is there, here, for them? Beautiful, young, innocent children are being taught they can do what they like, say what they like and act as they please, without any guidelines; without the discipline they crave? They’re being fed myths and fables with which to appease their vulnerable minds.

If our African democracy is allowing and showing these types of scenarios there is something seriously wrong with it! Is there someone out there who can perhaps miraculously come up with another form of government?

Democracy is not working as it should! Finish ‘n klaar!  It’s a means for finding and implementing the will of the majority; it has no other function. It serves, not to encourage diversity, but to prevent it. Imagine if all of life were determined by majority rule. Every meal would be a pizza. Every pair of pants, even those in a Brooks Brothers suit, would be stone-washed denim. Celebrity diet and exercise books would be the only thing on the shelves at the library. And — since women are a majority of the population — we’d all married to Mel Gibson!
