Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it isn't there, for Destiny is not a place, but a state of being. If you are still confused about the country you live in, you need not look further for the answers. They are in your mirror. It doesn’t matter whether your confusion arises from our tumultuous political situation of The Spear of the Nation, DA-to-Cosatu-Building protest, The Transparent Botox Leader, or from the shenanigans that happen on a day-to-day basis with crime stories hanging on the lines of police files, etcetera. You just have to sit down for a good drink and ask yourself, when is my destiny coming? From which corner will it come? Is politics the solution? Is religion the solution? Is science the solution? Are these even different? It’s all the same until you develop new eyes to look at no other person but at yourself. You are the solution. Just choose to remain true to yourself because everything that is adding to your confusion has been adding to the confusion of the world for eons (take a history class on google and you will find you are not the first to be accused of being a racist, fascist, negro, kaffir, whatever makes your hair stick out in rancour). We have been here in terms of the social context in which we live today. I say let your yes be yes and let your no be no. The world doesn't like people who say what they mean and mean what they say. I say to you, never compromise what is in you to appease what is in others. Speak your Truth and edify your soul. As a preacher from the tavern, I will speak my Truth and let you speak yours in peace.
Destiny a matter of time
We are living in Destiny. Let go of all these defence mechanisms we have developed over the years. Find your treasure in the now. Destiny is not a place we go to, it is what already is. The original meaning of destiny means something that has been firmly established. We have been established on the Foundation of Infinity. Wherever we want to go, we are already there. Even Eisenstein testified to this in his theory of general relativity, which is more of a philosophical theory than something teachers who didn’t want you running late to school would put much emphasis on. The Christ has already been there and done that, which he is still doing in the now. Do you remember when he was quoted telling the hotheads of his day that the time that is coming is already here? Well, my friends, these are Destiny Times. You are your Destiny, So Be It.
When the future becomes the present
I repeat: Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it isn't there, for Destiny is not a place, but a state of being.
Let’s visit the Biblical allegory for a second or two. To those who hate the Bible, I also hate Home Economics text books. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let us RSVP to the invitation that the book of John chapter 4 has given us. We have been invited into a private moment between Jesus and a woman defined as a whore. Their situations are different, but their destiny is the same. He is God walking the earth and she is just a girl from Samaria. He has a number of miracles under his belt; she has a few tricks under her sleeve. He has walked on pools of water; she has drowned in false promises of love with the men she has shared beds with.
Despite the glaring differences between the two, there is a deeper revelation of truth that pours out from the tide of their uncanny meeting. It is here that the sands of human mystery become sons to Abraham. Not only are these mysteries, but also insights into human traditional views, religious practices and the broader philosophies of life.
For example, in John 4: 23 Jesus Christ unveils the advent of a new era: “The hour is coming and now is,” he says. Here, Christ is launching the frontier of evolution, the beginning of a movement of conscious awakening. He gives scanty details to help us become consciously aware of the divine within the human: God within man. We start learning about the interconnectedness of our today with our tomorrow. We begin to understand why it is so impossible for us to catch up with the tomorrow that we have been chasing since the day we landed on this planet.
The reality is that each day that we spend chasing after tomorrow (a better life for all), we end up here in today (constant moaning). Jesus reveals the fact that the two are interconnected and cannot be separated yet can be spoken about independently. He is speaking about the oneness of time and the timelessness of life experience. What do you want to experience, a better life for yourself, or a bitter life because of the external turmoil in SA politics and global religion tendencies?
Which future do you choose?
In the story of the Samaritan Whore, we become consciously aware of the idea that Today is Christ and Tomorrow is the Father. So, the Father is coming, but now the Christ is. The Christ becomes the now, such that you cannot access the Father, who is the future, without first experiencing the Christ, who is the present.
I almost lost you there, but we need to proceed, for these are Destiny Times.
You cannot go to Tomorrow without passing through Today. “I am the way, the truth and the life,” said Christ. “Without me no one can see the Father.” Unfortunately for those who love to wait for tomorrow, it can only be accessed in the now because each time you reach Tomorrow, it immediately becomes Today. No man can see God (The Father) and live, but in Christ all men have found eternal life. Huh!!! This is not stuff for fundamentalist Christians who view the Bible literally – it is for the mature at heart, the ones who no longer drink the milk of the Logos but enjoy the meat at the table God has prepared in the midst of those who believe differently.
You are South Africa
These are Destiny Times. Jesus says “Lift me up, and I shall draw all men unto myself.” Lift up the moment, lift up the Now, and all men shall begin to understand the awesome experience of the Now. “All those that my Father has given me are in my hands, none is lost, except for the son of perdition.” All those that Tomorrow has given the Now are in Today’s hands, and none is lost, except for the son of perdition. Are you a son of perdition? Everything that is in Tomorrow is already in Today. “Show us the Father,” Philip pleaded, but Christ answered, “Have I been with you all these moments and you do not see that I Am the Father?”
These are Destiny Times. Today is asking. All these moments I have been with you and yet you do not realise that I Am Tomorrow? The time is coming but now is. For Tomorrow so loved the world that it gave it Today. Those who believe in Today shall be saved but those who reject Today are already condemned. For Moses (the prophets of the future) came with the law (maps and compasses) but Today came with Truth and Grace.
These are Destiny Times. Once you embrace the Now as the Future, Today as Tomorrow, the Christ as the Father, then, like Jonah, you have been offloaded from the turbulent boat of suffering into the mouth of the Fish of Destiny.
Well, my friends, these are Destiny Times. You are your Destiny, So Be It.
I remain, your TavernPreacher
