Today is another one of those days. I just received another “we regret to inform you” e-mails from another international corporation. I am planning an international Cancer Awareness Drive and to date I only have one confirmed sponsor.
It would seem that the corporates are mostely interested in sponsoring their local sporting events where they can spend millions in prize moneys that benefit only a few and give exposure to the corporate. Many see the banner on the side of the soccer field, or on the side of the football field, or at the start or the end of a marathon, yet, the banner that are displayed does not give the potential customer any indication that the corporate care.
I can say that Revlon sponsored a drive through South Africa last year for Breast Cancer Awareness and I would encourage people to support Revlon as they are willing to support the people that actually use their products. Another sponsor of said drive was Triumph Motorcycles.
I would love to appraoch Triumph for the motorcycles for the planned drive because I know that they are involved with cancer awareness, but unfortunately the terrain that the drive will cross, will unfortunately not suite the Triumph motorcycle.
The reason that some corporates give as an excuses are that their budgets are already allocated, but if they actually read the proposals, they would find that the drive would take place during 2014. So, when the drive takes place and the team need to make use of some products that was not sponsores for example the coffee in the mornings, and we have Nestle satches that we use, the details would be blanked out so it would not be visible to potential consumers, or having a chockolate bar, blanked out.
What can be done to ensure that the drive takes place in 2014. I will endure to make this drive happen does not matter what I need to go through. If there are no other sponsors besides the one that I have, I will do the drive maybe not as planned or in the time frame that it would otherwise take, but it will happen. I will walk the distance, but instead of taking 11 months, it might take 3 or 4 years to do.
Then there is the need for guidance to organize an event like the planned drive. I have made attempts to contact people like Jahan Badenhorst-no response, Riaan Mancer-only responded when I mentioned his first ride and no reply since, Braam Malherbe-no response and so on and so on. It would seem that these individuals are too important to give advice on the planning of a worthy drive.
If you have any advice that will help to make the Cancer Awareness Drive happen, please I need your input and support.
