We live in a society that is consumed by time, possession and the opinions of others. We move from one moment to another and constantly think about what is the next step, what is the next move and yet we fail to live in the moment of our beings. What has struck me the most is the exact to which we fail to let silence seep into our lives. Many are scared of what the outcomes will be and others do not see the relevance in silence.
Silence serves many purposes, it allows us to take a step out of our lives to realize the chaos we have created and it also allows us to gain perspective on the decisions and actions we have made. Silence in worst forms highlights what we are left undone and what we still need to do to become the people that we have always envisaged. In its best forms, it allows us to plan for the future and make better choices about the trajectories of our lives. When we are silent we hear our inner voice. It lets us know when we are heading the wrong direction and most importantly it let us know when we have done wrong to ourselves and others. This is the same voice that guides you through life and should help you to make informed decisions. So many people are going through life looking for means to fill the void in their lives and make sense of what is going on, but fail to look within to find the answers to their problems. The consumption of time, possession and the opinions of others serve as buffer to solve our problems and externalize our concerns onto others.
We fear the silence we experience in our friendships and relationships, but ironically it is in the silence that these relations are tested. The silence allows us to re-group our thoughts and spirit and allows us to understand the other individual better. Sometimes the moment of silence will question the formation of these relations and make us value ourselves and the other person more. It us lets know who will always be there for you, regardless of what you have and who you know. It all starts from within; it starts from making the choice to be at one with yourself that your life starts to change. When you listen to your inner voice, that is when your outer world will change. Learn to take solitude once in a while and begin to understand why things are the way they are. The introspection will be amazing, but what is most important is that you will learn to value yourself and the people around you more.
