Two days ago, a woman knocked on my door, I had just walked in from work. She said she is from Stats SA, had a shirt on with the Stats SA logo, she was carrying with her Census forms and saying that the reason for her going door to door, is that Stats SA wants to public to reaffirm their details on the form, so that the information we have on the Census form, must confirm with the form that will be handed to Stats SA.
I told her that I did not hear about this, and Stats SA did not advertise such, and how is it that we have to reaffirm our details, if we have already filled in Census forms, I told her I am not filling in anything, by this time she is asking me if she can come into my home, I told her I am not letting her in at all, and REFUSE to give her information. She wanted to know if I am married and who am I living with. I found all this to be strange, especially with the questions on marriage etc. I was shaking with anger.
She said that Stats SA needs that unique bar-code number and this is how the information will be confirmed. I repeated my question about Stats SA not advising the public of this, and she began shouting, I told her that I will be sending Stats SA an email to verify that their offices are sending people door to door for the public to reaffirm their Census details.
I sent a tweet message to Stats SA the same night, they responded and asked me to please send an email to their offices, for which I did, awaiting a response from them. I had this gut feeling that something did not sit right concerning this woman.
A warning to the public, please be aware of people that might be "posing" as Stats SA officials, I don't think that Stats SA is aware of this.
