If you have ever entered a class where statistics was about to be the main brain meal for the next couple of months, you most likely have come across the definition of Statistics. No; not the Oxford dictionary one. I'm talking about the Statistics: Lies, lies and more bloody lies.
Let's get one thing straight; South Africa doesn't have close to 52 million people living in it. I'd say were more close to 60 million. The problem with statistics and, indeed, the practitioners of this pseudo science, is that the results can be molded to say anything you want them to say; this applies most to those seeking political affirmation and second terms. Obama has already "proven" that the American economy is on mend, even though there are millions of Americans without jobs for years now.
Our incumbent President and ruling political party will probably take these numbers (Census 2011 results) and prove that they have indeed improved the lives of all Black South Africans...but what they will not clarify is that they have taken from Paul and paid Peter. But Peter still doesn't know how to farm, manufacture or indeed create an economy of his own.
I doubt they will clarify, No scratch that, I know they will not clarify and hammer home the point that going forward, the results are bound to get worse as the population balloons, the education level (already happened) tanks and the GDP shrinks. Our current public service and infrastructure is in the hands of morons and imbeciles. Corruption has quadrupled, and productivity is in the doldrums.
No. They will sit and gloat on the increasing income levels (above inflation) and housing (sub standard) delivery. Our shower headed Commander in Chief will probably get to keep his seat because there's enough hyenas to make sure that happens. I don't doubt the work or the necessity of a department or entity such as Stats SA; I just doubt the results that come out of there.
