In the midst of all that is going wrong in our country; the corruption, the crime, the inequality, our land and its people are still beautiful; from the talented artists who represent us globally; to the carrying individuals who live selfless lives in serving our country, who forget themselves and serve their communities in community projects, shelters, homes and whatever their beautiful hands find to do. They serve with utmost diligence; we are still a beautiful people.
Today I woke up with a more positive look at life, a more positive look at our country. There is so much wrong that we can focus on, but today I just wanted to reflect on the good. The good of our land. Yes we are going through so much pain, conflicts, and woes but despite all of that, there is still beauty.
Some have viewed us as a world in a country, our diversity, from the eleven official languages to our different cultures. Yes I love our country and I will not stop loving our country with all its flaws and corruption.
This country has come too far and is still going far, should Dr. Mamphela Ramphela enter into politics, we have hope as a people. That was the best news I have heard with regards to this country, this is the change that this nation needs, the change that we long for. A woman who will not only challenge us as a country but push us forward, just the thought of Dr. Mamphela Ramphela being a president excites me still.
I celebrate goodness, I guess that is a nature of any people we celebrate goodness, because it makes us feel good and when we feel good, we are motivated to do good.
We have indeed come very far as a nation, from refusing to hold hands to seeing beauty in each soul that we come across. Oh don’t get me wrong some still see themselves as better than others but they are too few to even bother us. We are a united nation, we still have flaws but a day at a time and we shall build our Rome.
There are dreamers who make their dreams come true, who go out there knock on doors, who just don’t quit until they achieve their goals and there are those who just dream and expect things to just happen magically, I don’t know which sangoma fooled them into thinking one can just dream things into being. But that is the beauty of a people; we just can’t all be the same.
Our support for each other somewhat always rekindles even after the light has extinguished. As I watched the game between Bafana Bafana vs. Morocco I remembered why we as a people were good at heart. Time and time again our team has let us down, but we have never lost heart, we still go out there, we still go out and support with hope that it will get better and yesterday it did get better, we made it through to the quarter finals, something our team hasn’t done in years and these were indeed proud moments for our country. In Gordon we trust some have declared.
These are just some of the few things that make our country so beautiful, so unique and so amazing. Yes there are critiques, the haters there are all sort of oppositions but still this land is a beautiful land, with beautiful people.
Of all the happenstances in our country I can still say with the greatest of pride this is our Land.
So before you pack your bags and turn away from our land, remember it is you who makes this country beautiful, who makes it worth staying in, who makes it so lovable and such an attraction. With all our differences we make South Africa beautiful.
