Today I listened to a chat show presenter talking to Helen Zille about her thanking Telkom for sponsoring a New Age breakfast a while ago.
I wonder if this chat show presenter was thinking clearly when she accused Zille of double standards: speaking at a breakfast hosted by the New Age newspaper and thanking Telkom for their sponsorship. My word, imagine having to dissect every detail everybody makes before you get involved. Nobody will ever be able to attend any meeting hosted by anybody remotely connected to the ANC.
Does this talk presenter somehow imagine that people in high positions should not associate themselves with people who are connected with Mr. Zuma or is she implying that people should not associate with shady characters? “You should have known .....” was her rhetoric. Shady characters abound in our political arena.
When one looks for a stick (in this case to make a very silly point) – the probability is that you will find one. Also – when the interviewed guest is off air – please do not make your point. It is a bit unfair to your guest!
I have a lot of respect for this particular talk show hostess. On a scale of 1 – 10 she is a 8.5. She has wonderful interview skills and opinions and she asks the right questions but somehow she lost it this morning (maybe just like Helen Zille slips up and/or has to lower her usually high standards from time to time to make a point.)
