Every chance we get, we blame the taxi drivers for wrong doing. If it’s not for killing or injuring people it is for overloading or reckless driving. They also never disappoint when it comes to giving us a reason to complain about them.
What we fail to see is that taxi drivers like all of us have feelings of empathy, a dedication to their profession, and a commitment to their families which is why they get themselves into trouble.
The taxi business is like all other business and there are targets that the taxi drivers must reach like bringing back a certain amount of money at the end of each business day, which if he/she doesn’t bring he/she will get paid less than the amount agreed upon because he/she failed to meet his target. Meaning that the owner didn’t get enough and therefore can not afford to pay the driver the amount agreed upon.
The taxi driver also has obligations like taking care of his/her family which if he/she doesn’t make enough money at the end of the business day; he/she cannot meet all his obligations.
Another fact to consider is that the taxi driver has empathy and he feels sorry for the people who say to him: “I will sit on the toilet” (the space left between two seats) when he is collecting his last load of people knowing that there won’t be another taxi to pick up the people he will leave behind because the taxi is full.
Another factor is that in the mornings all the passengers in a taxi want to get to work on time and they express this to the driver who makes a plan and drives on the yellow lane or on the oncoming traffic lane. The passengers desperately need to get to work on time, because if they show up at work late they might get fired or have to sign warnings so, the taxi driver takes it upon him/herself to make sure this doesn’t happen because he/she is a good service provider.
In addition to this; people have choices and free will but they keep quiet and travel in overloaded taxis and don’t say anything because they are in need of transportation but when there are accidents, they blame the taxi driver when they could have gotten off the taxi to show the driver that they don’t agree with overloading.
We also never blame parents for the cramped transports that carry their children to school, they know the people who take their children to school, and that their kids are overloaded in the transports and aren’t doing anything about it. But as soon as something goes wrong they appear on TV blaming the drivers when they knew what was happening all along.
At the time that the accident happens; they are hurt because their child has died or been injured so they put all the blame on the driver, even though they knew the conditions in that particular transport were not safe but they kept on using it because there weren’t any other transports available and affordable.
So you see, the parents are at fault; they can do something but they don’t, the adults can ask the taxi driver to slow down follow the rules of the road but they say nothing because they want to get home before dark or to work before it gets late.
Many people participated but only one pays the price. It is the rule.
