Telepathy is the supposed transmission of information from one person to another without using any of our known sensory channels or physical interaction. The Term telepathy was coined by Fredric Myers in 1882 Scientific consensus does not view telepathy as a real phenomenon. Studies seeking to detect, understand and utilize telepathy have been done, but according to the prevailing view among scientists, telepathy lacks replicable results from well controlled experiments;.
Psychical researcher: John Arthur Hill: No physical theory of telepathy has been worked out - “There is no brain waves known” and no receiving stations yet discovered inside our skulls. A physical theory of telepathy would reveal radiations detectable on physical instruments but no none have ever been detected.
GHOSTS: It was widely held that the soul was an exact reproduction of the body in every feature, even down to the clothing the person wore.
Such works as the Egyptian Book Of The Dead shows deceased people in the after-life appearing much as they did before death. In many traditional accounts, ghosts are often thought to be deceased people looking for vengeance, or imprisoned on Earth for bad things they did during life. The appearance of a ghost has often been regarded as an omen or portent of death. Seeing one’s own ghostly double or “Fetch” is a related omen of death.
SCIENTIFIC SKEPTICISM:
From about 1850 spiritualism was most popular in the USA. Séances and Ghost sightings were very popular past times and run by charlatan mediums. Accent was placed on bereaved persons wishing to have contact with departed loved ones. (John Edward). However, this trend could not be maintained indefinitely as the crooked mediums were exposed. In fact this spiritualism had actually found its way into churches. A poll in 2005 found that 32% of Americans believe in Ghosts.
Ghosts, witches, warlocks and a horde of others that walk by night only, have played a major part in history and then crossing over to the literary dimension where they have become solidly entrenched. These spectres have somehow always turned up when the literary setting is on a down-hill pass.
William Shakespeare had ghosts and apparitions thrown in by the dozen. An indication of the minds of that period in history. Ghosts and their counterparts still hold a fascination for the average person even though those persons do not believe in the existence of ghosts and the paranormal. About 80% of ghostly sightings can be debunked and written off as a sham or faulty sighting while there is only a very small percentage which cannot be explained away. Akin to the situation we experience with Alien statistics.
In my own case: A few weeks ago my porch light packed up. It was a normal 60watt incandescent globe. It was replaced with an economy globe of 20 watts and fitted with the light sensitive switch. A few nights later I walked past the open lounge door only to see a figure sitting on a chair. The figure was dressed in white. It took several seconds to realise the figure was a reflection from the white economic globe shining through the window. How many such ghosts have been seen and reported as a genuine sighting and accepted as such. Ghosts do not exist.
