Tell me why Minister Nkwinti

22 June 2014, 18:25
Dear Minister Gugile Nkwinti
Refering to the Sunday Times article announcing your implementation of your land expropriation act.
Please can you answer me the following questions. Failure to do so will make me believe that this is all political posturing. Failure to answer my questions will indicate that whatever channels are made available for the public to respond on these plans, will not be heard or taken into account.
1. Please tell me, us, why are farmers the only ones targeted? Why is it only farm workers who must be the beneficiaries. Farmers make up a small percentage of the population and work force. If all this is in the name of the labourers, why do other labourers not get this windfall. Why do bricklayers also not get to be part of the company they work for. What about the Pick-n-Pay tellers, why don't they also get to reap this reward. My point is, it is unfair to tackle farmers only. Why are you only tackling farmers. It is unfair, and by that nature can only be seen as unconstitutional because in the eyes of the constitution there should be no discrimination. Why are you targeting farmers only, why are you discriminating against farmers only? (if your answer is about the land issue, this is still not going to address the thousands of landless who live in towns, especially those that don'twant to farm).
2.Please tell me how is it possibly just, lawfully and morally correct to 'confiscate' half a man's livelihood without direct compensation.
3. Tell me too, is this only targeted at white owned farms or will ALL farmers be subject to this?
4. What about farmers that have only recently bought farms, those that have not even started to make a profit off it. Is this not grossly unfair to take half of that away from then.
5. What about farms that are still subject to land-bank loans and mortgages. Are the banks going to tolerate you taking effectively half of their properties? By extension, does the new "shareholder" if there is an amount owing on the land, become 50% liable for this?
4. Tell me how I can be confident that a core business is going to prosper when the possible shareholders who have worked there for longer than 10 years are not business minded people. How is it at all beneficial to a business to have at its top decision making structures, people who are not capable of making the important business decisions?
5. Do you acknowledge that many farmers might just "close up shop". Will you take accountability for the mass starvation, exceedingly high food prices and more unemployment. Will you, Mt Nkwinti. Will you own up to that at the time of reckoning? I bet you won't but at least it will go down in history that you Mr Nkwinti, would have been the cause.
6. Please tell us, SOUTH AFRICA as a whole, how do you expect forign investment, how do you expect local investment under your proposals. I for one, will not invest in a business that is part state owned because it would be a waste of my money. So tell us Mr Nkwinti, who in a sane mind is going to invest in the needed structures and improvements on the farms to make them more productive?
My overriding question here is - if this is all in the name of socially uplifting the disadvantaged, why are farmers the only ones being affected.
I am not a frmer, I don't own land but nevertheless,I look forward to your response.
