Thank you God for 2014

14 January 2014, 10:40

What would you say to a God who introduces Himself as Mr Alpha and Omega? One who says His first name is January 1 and his last name is December 31st.  I would cast all my cares on Him rather than trust in my best-laid annual plans. When the psalmist encountered Him he cried I have seen everything human has its limits and come to an end no matter how extensive noble or excellent: but thy commandment is exceeding broad – Ps 119:96.  If I encounter Mr Omega I would simply say thank you sir.

I would say thanks even if in 2013 my fig tree did not blossom and there was no fruit in the vine. Even if the labour of my field failed and yielded no meat; and my flock were cut off leaving no herd in my stalls. I would still rejoice in Him as my LORD and the God of my salvation. I would still proclaim that the LORD God is my strength, and He will make my feet be like hinds' feet in 2014, and make me to walk upon mine high places this year.

I would say thank you sir, believing that in 2014 He will continually be with me: that he will hold me by my right hand. That He shall guide me with His counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. I would confess to Him saying I have no one in heaven but you. There is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. My flesh and my heart may fail for all that 2014 holds, but you God are the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

If you do the same then you will hear the Lord Jesus say fear not what 2014 holds; for I am with you: be not dismayed for I am your God: I will strengthen you; yes, I will help you; even by upholding you with the right hand of my righteousness. Trust only in Me and forget not to watch and pray for I just might come back for you at a time you expect me not. In everything give me thanks because I am the author and the finisher of the year 2014 A.D.

Why I love Cambodia’s capital

There are so many reasons to hate Cambodia’s bite sized capital of Phnom Penh. Open sewers, naked children, piles of burning garbage on every street. Its a dirty, smelly, noisy amalgam. But Phnom Penh grows on you and by the time you leave it will occupy a special place in your heart. Read more...
