Thank you Madiba!

27 June 2013, 15:58
Dear Madiba,

This week has been very heavy for all South Africans-it has the same Heaviness it had in 1994-I remember the year well, as "White South Africa" we did not know what the future held and we were all very afraid! I was a student nurse at the time and many of us were in the clinical psychologists office being prescribed anti-depressants, not knowing what type of turmoil our beloved country was headed for, we also never knew much about "this Nelson Mandela" that was imprisoned for 27 years, we could only imagine the hatred though.I mean how would it ever be possible for anyone to come out of prison and want peace? and that was foremost on our young minds-that this man would come out and have his revenge! I remember The Johannesburg General Hospital calling a prayer meeting-Hospital Street was 1 kilometre long and we all attended, the entire hospital-we stood together hand in hand Black and White, Cleaner and Doctor and all prayed together for the future of this beautiful country, we all cried and prayed and hugged and wished each other the best for the future come what may-we would all be in this together! This same feeling continued with me into the day we all stood together for the first time to vote in the New South Africa-remember we all stood in queues that twisted around the block, once again Black and White,Rich and Poor all voting for an unknown future, but the energy and spirit in those queues, were unforgettable,I can still feel the hairs rise on my arms, knowing that this was something HUGE and we were all part of history in the making-So our dearest Madiba, when you where finally revealed to us and your message was not of Hate but of Tolerance, I think we can all agree it was a Miracle!!! Today we must thank you for your legacy, you brought South Africa from the cruelest past into the purest future and Today we must release you,our hearts are heavy once again and once again we are not certain of our future, all I know is I want to feel proud of my South Africa again-the South Africa-that you made Great-I want my heart to swell to unimaginable proportions like it did at the 1995 World Cup with you centre stage in the Captains jersey-Madiba you always knew just what to do and that is why it's so hard to say Goodbye!
