Unless the ANC-alliance makes a drastic change in its present policies and ideologies we shall end up in the same sorry state as the rest of Africa.
The labour unions must be reigned in because their regular strikes are costing the country billions every year. Their actions also scare off investors and cause major joblosses. The draconian labour laws that frighten off investors , cause unemployment and make our industries uncompetitive should also be changed.
The corrupt practice of dishing out jobs to incompetent cadres, friends and relatives must also stop. It is a major cause of mismanagement of money , misgoverment and poor service delivery and also the chief reason for the ANC's atrocious govermance since 1994.
President Zuma is notorious for his political appointments . Angie Motshekga, Blade Nzimande and Fikile Mbalula were awarded cabinet positions for their support when he opposed Thabo Mbeki.
The public service should be run by competent experienced professionals as it is the practice in developed countries. Local goverment is failing on a large scale and it is mostly due to political appointments .
When managers or workers fail they are often replaced with people of the same poor calibre.
The way in which the affirmative action policy is applied also leaves much to be desired. Poorly qualified applicants are appointed ahead of well qualified applicants because they are black or in order to reflect the demography.
Often a position is left vacant because there is no "suitable" black applicant. The fact is that there are not enough qualified black people to fill all vacancies. Especially important positions that require highly skilled experienced workers. To appoint a matriculant as manager of a hospital is to look for mismanagement and chaos.
Take all the failed projects, like the redistribution of farmland, and it is obvious that it was due to poor management by incompetent administrators.
Their long-term plans for acquiring more control of private land will demotivate commercial farmers and lead to food shortages and more unemployed workers.
Plans for nationalizing mines should be permanently shelved for it will chase away investors and cause more unemployment and poverty.
We need ways to arrest the downward slide we are experiencing not dumb actions to assist it.
