The Atheist Dilemma

If you’re a regular News24 reader and you regularly read the torrent of Anti-Christian comment, you’ll most likely come across these adjectives to intellectually describe Christians:  idiots, illogical, illiterates, deluded and many more.  I’m going to assume that the same applies to other religious faiths that believe in a maker.

Unfortunately for Eddy and the horde * of atheists for whom this reasoning applies to, they somehow manage to forget that this world, and indeed this site, are full of literate theists, not only literate ones, but some of the smartest people around.  These people include scientists, whom these atheists claim to know what’s going on, if they happen to not believe in God that is.  They also manage to imply that the following theists were illogical and brainless:  Nicholas Copernicus, Sir Francis Bacon, Johannes Kepler, Galileo Galilei, Rene Descartes, Blaise Pascal, Robert Boyle, Michael Faraday, Gregor Mendel, William Thomson Kelvin, Max Planck AND my two favourites Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein.

Now even if was a neutral, I’d find it pretty difficult and disturbing to hear any scientist or any of the News24 geniuses trying to explain how Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein were illogical and brainless.  Well, considering that Einstein downright rejected Atheism, I can see that many atheists would try to argue that he was.  For the rest of you, this presents a bit of a dilemma, because let’s not kid around, almost all of us know that Einstein was a genius and one of the most logical people in history.  Ironically, one of his motivations for going into science was to discover how we were created.  A couple of famous quotes attest to this:

·         “I want to know how God created this world, I am not interested in this or that phenomenon, in the spectrum of this or that element.  I want to know His thoughts, the rest are details."

·         "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."

You see the dilemma that many atheists have is that there are theists in history and theists around today who have not blindly jumped into a religious faith.  Many of us, like the people listed above, have questioned the existence of a maker and have applied logic to this idea, contrary to what most News24 atheists proclaim, that we are “blind”, “illiterate, “fail to apply logic”, “brainless” and believe in Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny.  Agreeing with Einstein’s, many of us religious folk seek to understand through science.  And the reason why we reject evolution is because it is not scientifically proven through observation.  And even though we cannot prove the existence of God through observation, we believe in a God because by applying similar logic as the geniuses listed did, we observe the harmony that exists in nature and we recognise that the design that exists in the world is too intelligent to have just happened by chance.

To conclude, I have nothing against atheists as it is your choice not to believe as it is my choice to believe.  But please, ridiculing intelligent people is really not classy and often the reasoning is very unintelligent.  Celebrity Atheists like Dawkins have been known to throw insults as an excuse to duck a long list of debates so maybe some Atheists are just following their leadership.  Let’s see if our Atheist friends can resort to constructive criticism to my question and please Christian readers, sometimes we do ourselves no favours in the way we retaliate, let’s act like we are true Christians.
