Do you think you’re a good person? Regardless of what you may believe, you are not. Consider this. How many lies have you told in your life time? How many things have you stolen in your life? If you are honest with yourself, then you've just admitted to being a liar and a thief. It get a little rough. Purity of thought - Have you ever looked, even today, at someone else with sexual desires or with hatred? Have you ever taken God’s Name in vain, you know, using it like it means nothing.
If you’ve answered “Yes” to any of these (most of us will answer a resounding yes to all of them) then you’re a liar, a thief, an adulterer and a blasphemer at heart. And IF God exists and is Just, Righteous, Pure and Holy, and He judged you and finds you guilty, what should He do with you?
The thing is, it doesn't matter whether you believe in God and sin and hell or not, the question is, “Is it true”. I haven’t seen a judge or the inside of a court with my own two eyes, does that mean that a judge or the court room does not exist? Imagine a criminal standing before that judge on earth and admitting his guilt yet at the same time telling the judge “I don’t believe you exist”. It doesn't make any difference what he believes. That criminal will go to jail, right? I hear you saying “But that is something tangible, something I can see”, but just because something is in the realm of faith and the unseen, doesn't mean that it’s true or not.
IF it’s true that God exists, whether you believe in Him or not, and He finds you guilty, you must be punished. You must go to hell because (and if you were honest enough about your…”goodness”) you’d know that you’re a law breaker. And the same thing would be true for everyone. Everybody deserves to go to hell because we’re law breakers.
Now, the Good News is that Jesus Christ is God. He’s the Judge and He is also God and He came to earth to be the sacrifice for your sins. God’s wrath was put on His Son, Jesus, to be the payment for your sins. You've broken God’s laws, but Jesus paid your fine, rose from the dead and ascended into heaven. And if you will respond by repenting, agreeing with God that you’re not good, saying you’re sorry for your sins and turning from them, you don’t become perfect on the spot, but you have a new attitude about your lying, lusting, blasphemy and stealing. And you change your attitude about it. When you apologise and you put your trust in Jesus, the bible says that all of your sins will be forgiven and you’ll be granted everlasting life. Not because you’re a good person, but because you’re a bad person who’s been forgiven by a very good God. That’s the gospel.
Here’s what you need to think about today. What I've told you is either true, or it isn't. If it’s not true, you’re good to go…no worries. But if it is true, you will be judged by God. You should examine your heart – Where would you stand before Him? And if you start to think that you’ll be in big trouble, then Jesus is your Saviour if you’ll repent and put your trust in Him. is that fair enough? Again it doesn't matter if you believe in it or not, what matters is if it’s true. And if it’s true, it will involve you. So the question you need to answer today is this: Is the Christian gospel true or false for you. That’s all I can ask you to think.
