The DA delivers a lot better than the ANC, unless planting lots of trees count. But I am starting to wonder about at what cost do we enjoy DA leadership? The by-laws in Cape Town have gotten more stricter and unlike the ANC who take their sweet time to discuss and rediscuss and let reports age well on desks. It seams like the DA is taking less time to think things through and are just copying foreign policies and pushing it through.
Everyone knows about the strict curfew on alcohol that leaves night club goers dry at 2am while Joburgers still party the night away. Cape town use to be a holiday paradise where you can party all night and watch the sun rise with your fiance and mates. Not so much legally anymore. What was the reason for this law exactly? I just can't see how drunk drivers would be less inclined to drive drunk a bit earlier. Perhaps it just makes the high drunk driving indecent hours less and easier for the police to monitor. How did the DA conclude that they should be taking away my freedom because the police can't do their jobs proper and punish the actual offenders. I mean where does this stop? Will the DA soon insist that all our babies be implanted with GPS devices because some will become fugitives? Will it be mandatory to have a 3rd party present to do a HIV test every time before we can have sex?
The latest DA authoritarianism comes in the form wanting to cut the driving speed limit with 10kmph. How do they think this is going to stop the people who already speed? Driving slower certainly doesn't make you a better driver, to the contrary it irritates drivers and irrational driving ensues. Particularly Otto Du Plessis Drive peeves me. It is similar to Ontdekkers weg in Joburg which is 80kmph and we are required to drive at 60kmph which in itself is ridiculous and now they want to make it 50kmph! Can you imagen driving 50kmph down Malibongwe Drive, that is the Cape Town DA reality for you.
Why are they doing this? Is it some maniacal plan to force residents to use public transport? I'm sure the BRT buses won't need to slow down, having dedicated lanes and all. Isn't it enough that the middle class caries the brunt of of the economic burdens? The rich are smiling price increases don't really affect them, the poor want more and more from the middle class and now we can't even have a drink when we want and are expected to crawl to work and back. What is wrong with these people!
I wonder if my future is a Western Cape freedom refugee in Joburg. Because at the speed I'm set to travel the ANC's snail's pace with slimy gravy trail and all is going to slug right past me.
Who will I vote for in the future? I don't know. But I'm tired of being wiped by Zille's dominatrix trix.
