Both websites also displays numerous stock photos of large groups of cheerful Caucasians, making no secret of their “exclusive membership” requirements.
Bridges also subtly advertised the FVP on her Facebook sites, and both the FVP and the BVL shared “resources” by names of Hein Boonzaaier and Johan Prinsloo. There was later a humiliating occurrence for both the BVL and FVP when Boonzaaier along with Prinsloo was arrested on suspicion to overthrow the current regime. http://mg.co.za/article/2012-12-21-00-mangaung-terrorist-threat-or-flight-of-fancy It should be noted that charges against Boonzaaier has been dropped, http://www.iol.co.za/news/crime-courts/charges-against-right-winger-dropped-1.1567300 and that the case against Prinsloo is still pending. Some elements of the included M&G article has been disputed by many, however it confirms the link between Prinsloo, Boonzaaier the FVP and BVL. Both the BVL and FVP have suspended Boonzaaier and Prinsloo. http://m.news24.com/news24/SouthAfrica/News/FFP-suspends-Mangaung-treason-accused-20121219
However this joining of Right-Wing forces gained momentum in early 2013. Another organisation, calling themselves the Boere Krisis Aksie (BKA) https://www.facebook.com/pages/Boere-Krisis-Aksie-BKA/116298045063416?fref=ts, as well as Activist Dan Roodt, proceeded with “Volksvergaderings” throughout the country. The first was held in Pretoria, in July this year. http://praag.co.za/?p=14947
Speakers during this meeting were Dan Roodt, Hannes Engelbrecht from BKA, Willie Cloete from the newly formed FVP as well as Sunette Bridges from the Boervrouliga (and organiser of Red October). Interestingly enough the meeting initiated discussion regarding the subject of using the 2014 election as a “referendum” to determine public interest amongst Afrikaners for Self-determination (Volkstaat) as can be seen in the discussion on the BKA Facebook page : https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?id=116298045063416&story_fbid=696754413684440. They will attempt this by exploiting Resolution 2649 of the United Nations General Assembly (1970) http://www.israellawresourcecenter.org/unresolutions/studyguide/sgunresgasum1970.html . The logistics regarding such a referendum has not been published as yet.
Shortly after the “Volksvergadering”, Bridges started coordinating the Red October events. The theme behind this was bright red and quirky (obviously diverting attention from its obvious Right -Wing origins) Although Bridges maintains she is apolitical, the newly formed FVP as well as the BKA (who seems to lead the discussions regarding Resolution 2649) were eagerly posting about how they are involved and supporting the Red October events. https://m.facebook.com/FederaleVryheidsParty?v=timeline&page=3§ionLoadingID=m_timeline_loading_div_1383289199_0_36_3&timeend=1383289199×tart=0&tm=AQBj5NtARCbeVw1U&refid=17 ; https://m.facebook.com/150417335046343/timeline/story?ut=2&hash=-5557145790178674927&wstart=0&wend=1383289199&ustart&refid=17 .
When the first pictures emerged from the Red October Marches, people carrying large posters with the abbreviations “BVL and BKA” were spotted amongst the crowd. Some may find it strange that there were no old South African flags, (except for one in London apparently.). It is easy to explain. The far right wing despises the old South African flag, due to the fact that the Union Jack appears in the centre.
They rather opt to fly the old Transvaal Vierkleur flag. This they claim is not racist, but it has always been the symbol of choice for far Right Wing Organisation, like for example the AWB. If you look back at the footage and pictures of especially the Pretoria march, you will not find it hard to spot the four colours. Strangely enough this event also fell on Kruger day. As you may know Paul Kruger was once president of the Transvaal Republic (Zuid – Afrikaanche Republiek) . Some well-known right wingers also attended the marches in Pretoria.
It should be noted that the Right-Wing represent a very small, yet vocal, minority within the white community. For most whites they are a joke. They do however have a right to march in this country, and exercise their democratic rights.
The Red October event (cunningly!) aimed to attract more moderate white folks, and the drawing card was crime and promises of a memorandum containing some non-threatening requests being delivered to government.
In my opinion, Red October is a fraud, and this fraud needs to be exposed to everyone that joined with good intentions. I find it even more obscure that Bridges has revealed this morning that the next Balloon day, will be held in April 2014. “In time for the National Elections… “ . In the meantime Bridges and BKA will keep feeding their propaganda to their newly gained fans, who may still think Red October is a noble, non-racist cause..
You may ask, where does Steve Hofmeyr come in? Steve Hofmeyr in my opinion is just one of those people who make an appearance wherever he sees a gap in the market. He does not have strong political affiliations, and I doubt that he has really been anything but a celebrity face at the event.
