The French Destroy 'Knysna' World Cup Soccer Bus

01 June 2014, 22:15

The greatest international attention to tourism the small town of Knysna has ever received was ironically during the 2010 World Cup when the French soccer side refused to get out of their bus and practice. It was a moment that became synonymous with national betrayal and has regularly turned up in the news the past 4 years.

The French players were to practice for their final group stage match but defied their coach, Raymond Domenech, after he'd benched striker, Nicolas Anelka, for insulting him during the previous match.

Adidas, then the team sponsor, has built a replica of that infamous bus and named it "Knysna". And destroyed it last week, ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

"The Knysna bus is a strong ball that prevents the team from France to calmly deal with the World Cup in Brazil symbol. This is why we decided to destroy it," said the director of Adidas France.
