The 'H' word

10 October 2012, 07:20

The issue of discrimination is really getting old and it seems we are just growing with it. We've hidden behind fancy terms that really don't even mean much and we become so defensive about it. A lot more times we see people in positions where all that's in their mind is negative towards other people. I can't say it's wrong, because that would mean I'm disrespecting their valued 'conception' towards a particular issue. It's true, we're all filled with our own ideas and posses diverse points of views. But I think we've been replacing the word hate with these fancy "ism" and "phobia" terms.

I suppose it's only natural however. I mean, look at love. We explain and express it with such passion and elegance. It's beautiful, it speaks to the heart and touches one's soul in a manner that can not even be fully explained in words. Hate is the direct opposite, right? It's easy then to argue that hate is also just natural. We can say then that it's not anybody's fault, I suppose.

I still don't buy it though. It's a lot harder for me to understand the strong dislike that people have towards other people just because they're somewhat different from them. To me that reasoning is just vague. It's like you have no 'reason' to hate, but you just do. In a country that has experienced so much turmoil and have felt the agony of oppression, it is rather shocking that we as a people still posses such strong negative emotions towards one another.

I read a story online on a lesbian girl that was raped, murdered and dumped in some remote area because she was apparently being 'corrected'. It's really absurd how low our own people would stoop. In a country that knows oppression and how white people hated black people, this black on black hate and violence is just a spit in the graves of the people that died fighting for freedom.

For some odd reason it just seems we love and we enjoy all these exceedingly cruel and brutal acts. Then we hide behind these phobia terms. We're running from the truth, I think. We're just a bunch of uninformed and unlearned people that hate each other and hide behind morality and our bibles. Where then is the Godliness in that?

Not trying to justify anything. Just another random though.
