The IEC Head office….
The Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Commission may have thought that after the supposed good logistical administration of the most recent elections, that the criticism voiced against her action in the acquisition of the new Independent Electoral Commissions offices in Riverside Centurion, might have been less detrimental to her standing, but unfortunately, that is not the case.
The investigating parties in the matter has ruled that her role in the procurement and acquiring of the said building was not fair, nor transparent or cost effective, where personal gain played a major role, especially so in lucrative ‘benefits’ that may have been secured in her favour under the table.
The Independent Electoral Commission is a Chapter 9 Institution in terms of the Constitution and has for the past 20 years and even before, had credibility not only within the borders of South Africa, but in the whole world, yet now one person comes and spoils this, in effect causing the system immeasurable harm, through actions that borders on personal greed.
As Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Commission one would have expected that the person would lead by example, yet greed steps in, and the leaders become corrupt.
The actions of those that lead rub down on the subordinates within the ambit of the business and in the process its standing and credibility becomes questionable, which is something that should never be.
The administration, logistics and credibility of any election and or its results that is forthcoming should be unblemished in every possible way, and to be representative of free, fair elections that has been held.
As they say, "one rotten apple spoils the whole box" and when that apple is the supposed best one in the box, the other apples can easily follow suit.
So come 2016 we would be having the local government municipal elections and one needs to wonder if by then the whole head office acquisition and saga of the Independent Electoral Commission has been laid to rest, and resolved amicably, and we can be assured of credible, fair and free elections and the subsequent results, not being manipulated in any way.
