The Land issue

18 June 2012, 15:11
From time to time someone (like the ANCYL) shoots their mouth off regarding various things.  The latest bandwagon is Nationalisation and land.

Now when the country was 'democrotised' the ruling party (led by Mandella of course) quickly realised that to secure food supply they will have to accept the historical fact that most farmers were white Afrikaners.

Fortunately by negotiation certain things were enshrined in the constitution, like tenure of land amongst other things.  If you look at the rest of Africa the worst off countries are the ones with the worst agriculture.

The most recent example is Zimbabwean who we know is an absolute disaster when it comes to farming. In SA the 'emerging farmers' are nothing more than workers with workers mentality.

There is a huge difference in owning a farm and working on it.  It was interesting reading one of the comments on the article about land-grabbing, where the person pointed out how much land is being held by 'traditional leaders' and how much is still being held by the churches, not to mention the huge tracks of land held by various forms of government so the white Afrikaans farmers have become very convenjient whipping boys in the land issue.
