Is it not amazing how honesty, even in small things, just seems the exception, especially when it comes from someone in authority, and specifically from politicians.
Gone are the days when one could believe anything they say, when their word carried some authority, and was communicated with integrity and pride. Now, they just lie, like a bunch of cheap watches, so blatantly and continuously, that one has to marvel at their perception of the intelligence of their audience.
If one thinks of who and what they are, the responsibility they carry, the influence they have, they lives they shape, the roll models they are, is it too much to ask for honesty? Can we not insist that they tell us the truth, and hold them responsible for the lies that they tell and perpetuate?
It always amazes me that people stand in court and plead their innocence, knowing full well that they are guilty. But then, they are either criminals by nature, or very close to it, or else they would not be in court in the first place. However, when a minister or any responsible person in government, be it local or national, spews lies like a machine gun, it makes me wonder what our world has come to, and why anyone should be listening to the rubbish spoken.
Sadly, there are ignorant and simple people who believe this, and they are the ones who are let down and turn to other ways of expressing their frustration, rather than the ballot box. Little wonder that violence has become the tool of choice to express unhappiness.
Imagine if we could believe, without doubt, every word that every politician says, as it should be...since thay are people of integrity and principle, who do not imply that we have less brains than lice..
