Let me start by saying that if you are one of the atheists commenting on all the posts over the last couple of days, you should probably stop reading this right now.
You are not going to like what I have to say. You are free to comment until your fingers bleed, because it is after all a free country, but I will not respond.
I am not going to quote any sources, and I will not be getting into scientific arguments. For me it is very simple. I believe because I choose to believe. I will be the first to admit that I am not well versed in all the scientific theories being quoted and used in the back and forth debate, but a Christian is not required to be able to prove the existence of God.
I would therefore like to call on my fellow believers to stop getting pulled into debates regarding the proof that God exists. Faith is belief in the absence of proof. That is the whole point. That is God’s way of testing us. I have no doubt that if He wanted to prove His existence, He would. If we could point to actual physical proof that He exists, that would remove the need for faith, our only obligation. It would then become very easy to believe in God, and nowhere in the bible does it say being a Christian will be easy… It follows that we would never be able to prove His existence and I think it is a mistake for us to get involved in debates with people who absolutely refuses to believe. We can only pray for them, that they see the light before it is too late.
I don’t know why they have this burning need to convince everybody that God doesn’t exist, and frankly I don’t really care. I can only speculate that sub-consciously at least they feel the emptiness in their souls and they realise that science makes a poor substitute for God’s love. Don’t get me wrong science is wonderful and have led to many wonderful discoveries, but for me God and science can co-exist.
The only observation I will make is this. Way back when, all the scientists believed that the sun was the centre of the universe, now they don’t. When the atom was discovered, they all believed that this is the smallest building block of matter, until they discovered quantum physics. Mathematicians even proved that it is impossible for a human being to run faster than a four minute mile, until the first person did so… My argument earlier holds, I don’t think anybody will ever conclusively prove the existence of God, but I also think that saying something doesn’t exist just because it hasn’t been proven is a flawed argument.
In the end each of us can only make up our own minds. Your relationship with God is personal and should never be influenced by what other people think. I will say again, I believe because I choose to believe. It is as simple as that, and nobody will ever convince me otherwise.
